After trying out a few games with very extensive rulebooks recently, “The Vale Of Eternity” was just what we needed.
The instruction booklet is straightforward and the rules are really easy to understand.
All the cards, tiles and game boards are explained very well and once you have understood the basics, you can get down to business.
Gameplay
A maximum of ten rounds are played, or until the first player has collected 60 points.
Each round is divided into three phases: Selection phase, action phase and activation phase.
First, twice as many creature cards as players are revealed.
The players may then select mystical creatures in a specific order and place their markers on them.
Once all the cards have been chosen, the next phase begins.
Now you can choose between four different actions for your creatures: you can either sell, tame, summon or release them.
All actions are of course subject to conditions.
The effects noted on the cards are then used in the activation phase.
In general, the aim is to score as many points as possible with the help of these effects, which can be permanent, recurring or one-off.
Some of them relate to other cards and so a clever combination of summoned creatures can ultimately earn you the decisive victory points.
It is therefore worth thinking strategically and deciding wisely which creatures will be useful and which you can safely sell for rune stones.
Incidentally, you need the latter to summon the creatures in the first place and thus activate their effects.
Conclusion
The Vale of Eternity is an entertaining yet strategic game that can be played by two to four people aged 10 and up.
The relatively simple rules mean that it doesn’t take very long to prepare for the game, leaving much more time for the game itself.

The world of The Vale of Eternity is full of magical creatures such as giants, dragons, phoenixes, Nessie and many more. As tamers, players aim to tame and summon the most powerful of them in order to collect the most points with their help. There are a total of 70 creatures to discover in the game, inspired by different mythologies that allow for a wide variety of strategies.
In each round, new creatures are revealed, which players can then sell to obtain rune stones. Alternatively, they can also tame creatures to take them into their hand, summon creatures to place them in front of them from their hand or release creatures to discard them. In the activation phase, all the effects of the creatures in your display take effect. Whoever can combine the abilities of the creatures in the best possible way will win The Vale of Eternity.
