When installing some systems / distributions (e.g. OPNSense, IPFire, CentOS, Ubuntu) boot problems can occur. The reason for this is the different management of the storage media of the system distributions. Both the APU2 and APU3 series and the APU4 series can be affected by this.
This can be remedied by updating the BIOS to a new version.
BIOS tests with appropriate media
This table shows the systems currently tested on BIOS v4.9.0.x with the corresponding media:
- * – works well with BIOS v4.6.8 or higher in major version and all older versions; With v4.6.7 and older versions of the main version, problems with the installation and system functionality (installation errors, unwanted restart) can be eliminated by adding a note hint.ahci.0.msi = “0”. Please refer to this document for more information.
- (2) – All APU boards have problems recognizing the USB 3.x stick in the BIOS. The system works properly, but after a restart / warmboot / coldboot the USB stick may not be displayed in the BIOS start menu (depending on the stick, well-functioning sticks are mentioned in this document).
- (1) – Voyage Linux is bootable on the SD card and works fine in read-only mode. Redeploying reads and writes, as well as writing changes to the SD, sometimes creates a kernel panic that often results in an inoperable system.
